Cecil the lion.

The years of exploiting and colonizing Africa is what ultimately (directly or indirectly) caused Cecil the lion to die. If Africans were able to keep the treasures and natural resources of their countries throughout the centuries, they would be in better standing today. They would treasure their animals better and have policies against such cruelty. It wouldn't be a perfect place, but it wouldn't be this bad and have people at the dire mercy of any business that comes their way for survival.  It's a catch 22.
